Free support for VCS employment and skills providers

LVSC and partners will shortly announce the launch of VCS Assist, a programme of free organisational support for London's VCS employment and skills providers.

VCS Assist will help organisations:

•   improve project performance and outcomes for their clients

•   develop delivery partnerships with other organisations, including prime contractors and colleges

Runnymede survey on impact of the public sector cuts

The Runnymede Trust is conducting a survey in conjunction with the TUC and a number of unions including UNISON, Unite, PCS, NASUWT and UCU.  The survey aims to map the equality impact of the cuts to public services by asking public sector workers to tell us about changes to their workforces between two points - 2010 and 2012.

All of those who complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw for Amazon vouchers.

Government invests in Third Sector workforce development

Skills -Third Sector’s ongoing work to support the development of an ambitious, skilled and adaptable third sector workforce has received renewed government funding of £250,000 for 2012/2013 from the Office for Civil Society.

This will enable Skills – Third Sector, a charity, to continue to work with employers to raise ambition on skills in the third sector and to generate solutions to meet the workforce skills needs of employers.

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Race and Community is calling for written evidence for its inquiry into ethnic minority female unemployment. The inquiry is specifically focusing on Black, Pakistani and Bangladeshi women. Runnymede acts as secretariat for the group.

Unemployment amongst black 16 to 24-year-olds has almost doubled in the last four years - from 28.8% in 2008 to 55.9% in the last three months of 2011 - according to the Office of National Statistics. Leading Charity Urges Parents to Help Schools Tackle Race Inequalities

A new publication released today by the Black Training and Enterprise Group (BTEG) reveals the extent to which parents can play a key role in helping schools tackle race inequalities.

The guide Race Equality and Schools: A guide for Parents and Carers has been produced to help parents and carers to understand the responsibility that schools have under the new Equality Act 2010 to address race equality and suggests what parents can do to support schools to raise educational attainment.
