Career Changes

We always think we know what career path we want to take, but sometimes that dream job can turn into your nightmare job! So what do you do? You should never feel like there is no way out!
First, you need to think carefully about the implications that changing your career might have on you and your family. Make a list of the pros and cons of your current job, speak to family and friends about your decision. This is not a decision you can rush in to. Remember, that the current job climate is tough and you may not be able to find a new job so easily, if you decide that you definitely want a change of career, stay in your current job until you can find a new job! You may even have to retrain if you do not have the desired skills for your change of career.

However, most of the skills you have acquired in your job can lead you on to numerous career opportunities, it is for you to open up your avenues and see what is out there! A good way to start thinking about what other career paths to take would be to write a new personal statement, this will allow you to fully understand what you will have to offer a new employer. Then start to search for jobs that interest you, look carefully at the person specification and see if you can match it with your previous experience, if you can, you have a chance! Never think that you have to stay in a job because it is the only career you know or have trained for, most skills are transferable, at the end of the day it will come down to how well you can sell yourself!
