Apprenticeships are the ideal way to learn on the job, build your knowledge and gain new skills for your ideal career. Depending on the type of Apprenticeship you are applying for you may be able to earn while you learn!
Apprenticeships can take between one to four years to complete before you get a nationally recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are normally offered in the trade industry such as: Plastering, Construction, Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing. The minimum salary is £2.65 per hour; however, many apprentices earn significantly more.
Apprenticeships are open to anyone above the age of 16 and can be obtained through Sixth Form, Colleges and Corporate Companies. You will need to do your research. There are also different entry requirements and lots of competition for placements, so try to apply as early as possible. The employers in the industry will usually put a programme together for their apprentice, which will cover a range of skills that you will need to do a job well. Your employer will set you targets and review how well you are making progress throughout your time on the programme. Time will also be spent in a local college where you will complete off-the job training. Apprenticeships are usually up to 30 hours a week.
